Knitting garbage: have you been doing it unbeknown to yourself?

Knitting garbage
Whether YOU
- are curious and want to do something creative with unlikely scraps of yarn
- or wether you are stuck for cash (and buying new luxurious yarn)
- or wether you are conscious of the environment,
everybody has access to garbage.
- Knitting garbage
- Start knitting platic shopping bags
- Plastic sandals
- Recycled plastic bracelet
- Flowers made of recycled platic bag
So here is how to knit garbage.
Let’s start with… OK, maybe not garbarge but at least scraps of wool. The knitting patterns which use a lot of scraps are :
- Afghans straight out of the garbage bag. Here is an interesting article I found. This lady tricks herself in keeping herself intersted in knitting an afghan by hiding her yarn in a garbage bag. It is quite funny if you don’t mind not knowing what the result is going to look like.
- Blankets
- Accessories
Then off course you can look at using different materials, straight out of the garbage:
- Plastic bags! yes… people are doing it, that is they are recycling plastic bags by cleaning them up and knitting or crochet’ing them into all sorts of wearables. Here is a video for proof. It is being done today in Kenya (and possibly other places too).
In fact, come to think of it, if you wear polyester garments, you are already wearing garbage! That’s my take on it anyway. Back to knitting garbage.
- Recycled Sari Silk yarn: another sort of ‘garbage’ you can knit is recycled sari silk. I have not done it yet but some people out there (you can find them on eBay) make yarn from recycled scraps of saris. Most of it comes from Nepal and actually supports and raises women’s welfare. Comparable yarns are banana silk yarn and soya cotton yarns.
And last but not least, and possibly unbeknown to yourself, you may already be knitting out garbage knitting patterns if you get some free stuff from the internet. There are quite a number of really garbage knitting patterns out there on the internet but burried under those are some good ones.
